Antec TPQ 1200 Reviews
Antec TPQ 1200 Review by T. V. Schrempp
So far so good. Powers my system flawlessly and will hopefully be plenty of juice for future upgrades. Looks good inside my silverstone rv02.
Antec TPQ 1200 Review by R. Brown
The Quattro so far has been up and running for about a month now and seems to provide flawless power to my system which includes a 5970 (dual gpu) card, water cooling fans and pump, dual core LGA775 system, 2HDD, and 4gb of ram. The last power supply was a 750 that was outdatted with lack of 8pin pcix adapters so with the new power hungry card I selected this power supply which comes with more connectors than I need now, but should provide a good future upgrade path to either hexacore systems (AMD/Intel).
Antec TPQ 1200 Review by J.D. Young (Manhattan)
There are the obvious things about this Power Supply that will get you looking. It's 1200 watts, runs at high efficiency so the reported wattage is actually what you consistently get, and it's Antec, a trusted brand. But beyond the obvious is where this shines.
Long story short, I had two 6970 OC'd graphics cards that needed an 8 pin AND 6 pin cable for EACH card. That's 2 x 8 and 2 x 6. But with this power supply I only needed two cables, because it comes with a dual-head configurable cable for each card. It's designed for dual card setups and that's a great design choice. Each of these dedicated graphics card cables contain two connectors each. You can literally do any combination: 2 x 6, 2 x 8, or 6 x 8. The extra 2 pins snap on to the side of the 6 pin connector for each of the two ends on the cable.
The only downside is size. This is bigger than whatever you're using now-- it was bigger than an Antec TruPower850, which was bigger than my previous Antec 550 I had years ago in the same case. I have an Antec P180 case and this thing was so long that it required I remove the fan in the lower section. So plan ahead for your cooling needs and space requirements.
Pros: Easy cable management. Built for SLI / Crossfire. 1200 watts and highly reliable. Surprisingly quiet.
Cons: It's huge-- but I don't know how you can realistically avoid that.
